Self Defence

Empty until there is only emptiness
within stillness.
Then selflessly watch the eternal rhythms
of all things
Rising and falling with themselves.

Each thing becomes and grows
and fulfils itself,
and then returns to its nameless beginning.
Such is the way of all things.

With self still and empty,
discover the unchanging in all changing.
Knowing this
leads to wisdom.
Not knowing this
leads to misfortune.

With wisdom comes tranquillity;
With tranquillity comes softening;
With softening
the inside self becomes the outside world.
This is the way to the Tao.

Then everything moves
in timeless balance and harmony,
Peacefully fulfilling itself.

(Lao Tzu)
