Self Defence

Learn to let go and be free.

(Buddha)

Breathing

By listening to the breath go in and out we can begin to slow down.
To breathe well we must breathe deeply.
This action should not be forced. We must allow the breath to slow.

Breathing from the abdomen will make you much calmer.
When the breathing slows, your mind will slow. A calm mind will allow you to notice more and enjoy life.

Making time

If you want to do something, you make time for it.
People have a tendency to cram too many activities into too little time or leave things until the last minute.

Pace yourself. Putting things off only creates a future impediment...
Why not do it now and then forget about it?
If you don't have time to do something now, prioritise.
Do what you can immediately and do the rest later, or don't.

If you make relaxation one of your priorities, you will treat it seriously.
When relaxation becomes important enough to you, you'll make time for it.

Release your burden

Shedding unnecessary belongings, commitments and habits can free up your life.
Instead of doing 15 things, you do 3.

As with all things in life, your success in this endeavour is entirely relative to how earnest you are.

Do Nothing Day

Make the time to do nothing at all.

Have a 'do nothing day' in which you ignore:

  1. the phone

  2. chores

  3. responsibilities

  4. commitments

Leisure

Treating leisure time as valuable will help you to relax.
Watching television may provide some measure of relaxation but taking a slow walk in the fresh air will do much more.

Loafing is crucial.

If you spend your leisure time shopping or in ceaseless activity, where is the calm in that?

Fun is very important.
Try not doing anything in particular. Be whimsical, impulsive, dreamy. Pamper yourself or be pampered.
Have sex.

Healthy home

Creating a healthy living environment will affect whether you feel relaxed or not.

Feng shui teaches us how to make our homes feel spacious and organic.
Take some time to make your home a sanctuary of peace and relaxation, then unplug the phone and let your health come first.
