Self Defence

Why are you asking another?
Don't you want to find out for yourself?
If I were to give you an answer,
you would either refute or accept it,
which again would impede intelligence, understanding.

You have to take the voyage on an uncharted sea.

 (Krishnamurti)

Subjective quality

Quality is the measurement of worth you apply to something, how good you consider it to be...

What this means will differ from person to person, as we all have different values.

Objective quality

In taoist terms 'quality' refers to an inherent feature or attribute, to the nature of something.

The qualities of water might be wetness, flow, transparency and that it is has no shape.

The way, the how, the nature, the character is what matters in taoism.

Quality of life

If everyone defines quality in a different way, how can we establish what we mean by 'quality of life'?
We must each figure it out for ourselves.
How do you spend your life?
Are you happy?
Is your occupation stimulating?
Do you spend time doing the things you want to do?
Can you relax?
Are your relationships satisfying for you?

Quality tai chi

Is it possible then to assess the quality of tai chi?
Tai chi has certain necessary attributes and these must be present to ensure that the practice is worthwhile.
These are the tai chi principles.

Quality relationships

The way in which you interact with everything else around you is a crucial concern in tai chi and taoism.
By developing your awareness and sensitivity you become more conscious of the relationship that exists between you and the world around you.

Every moment offers you the opportunity to consider how you are relating to others.

Are you kind, open, understanding, patient, forgiving? Have you dropped litter?
Do people look happy when you enter the room? Would you knowingly kill another living creature, (even a fly)?
What kind of partner/parent/son/daughter/friend/lover are you?
Can you smile at cows in a field and then eat a hamburger?
