A tai chi chuan
exponent has absolutely no ideas in his mind.
He is like a still pond - when a stone is dropped in it
the ripples are automatic and natural.
(Cheng Man Ching)
The self defence applications
of tai chi involve the refined transmission of energy.
This topic is called 'jing'.
Are we projecting qi when we strike?
Who can say?
Can they prove it?
Kinetic (movement) energy is undoubtedly being projected, but this
is not the same thing as qi.
Fa jing
(energy release) enables the transmission of energy from
one body to another.
Energy transmission is not a mystical practice. It is about storing and
releasing
kinetic energy.
The energy system
The human body has a complex network of channels,
meridians and capillaries interacting the entire body system.
Acupuncture and acupressure treatments depend on the meridians and power
points to directly modify the strength, balance and flow of qi in the body.

The energy points and meridians not only lead qi to their related organs but
also show up any pathological disturbances in those organs.
Qi and tai chi
Dynamic Balancing Tai Chi is
moving qigong.
The system is specifically designed so that each third of the form exercises
every meridian of the body.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture gained popularity and recognition in the
West when the press followed President Nixon into China in 1974.
There, representatives of major US news networks witnessed and reported on
several demonstrations of serious surgeries.
They were performed with acupuncture
as the only anaesthetic.
In China, acupuncture can be traced back as far as the stone age.
Stone knives and pointed rocks were used to relieve pain and diseases.
Hard science?
Although many people can demonstrate the effectiveness of acupuncture, there is
little scientific evidence to explain exactly what happens to the body as a
result of treatment.
