Self Defence

I should have been a pair of ragged claws
Scuttling across the floors of silent seas.

(T S Eliot)

What is poetry?

Poetry is the art of expressing thought and feeling through the medium of language.
Chinese language is more poetic in nature than English so a grasp of poetry can assist when reading books regarding tao.
People use the word 'poetry' to capture a sense of natural flow, beauty and harmony e.g. poetry in motion...
The conventions of poetry differ from standard writing.
Poems may express ideas using very few words and ignore the rules of grammar and punctuation entirely.

Haiku

Haiku is a type of poetry that is minimalist in style.
Traditionally it uses a 5-7-5 syllable structure and concerns nature in some way.

Koan

Koan is similar to haiku except that the poem is a paradox intended to free the mind from a habitual pattern of thinking.
Not every koan will or can make sense.
The koan serves as a learning tool.

Wit

Traditionally poetry has been used as a medium for the expression of wit, humour and passion.
In ancient Japan, the verse of the pillow book was used to evoke eroticism too.
