Self Defence

Fitting the martial art to the person rather than stuffing the person into a martial art is an appropriate approach.

(Ron Sieh)

The pattern

A part 1 beginner needs to start accurately learning section 1 of the
form. You will complete this task in part 2.
It is important for you to be capable of practicing it without any assistance.

In class, we tutor you on a new movement and then leave you to train it.
You must add each new move to the preceding ones until you have memorised section 1.

Regular revision will help you to notice smaller details and address any mistakes.

Quality

There is no point in rushing this
form or gaining a vague sense of it. You need to feel familiar with it and confident.

We do not encourage
form collectors.
You will not be shown another form. There is enough work in this one form to last you the rest of your life.

Quality is what matter. Substance. Understanding.

If you are not sure of a posture, ask. We will be happy to show it to you again.
Do not be tempted to copy somebody else. What if they are doing it incorrectly?

You will not be taught any form applications until intermediate syllabus (part 1).
At that stage, you will be capable of considering the form in perspective.
