Self Defence

An attachment isn't a fact.
It is a belief, a fantasy in your head, acquired through programming.
If that fantasy did not exist inside your head, you would not be attached.
You would love things and persons and you would enjoy them thoroughly but,
lacking the belief, you would enjoy them on a non-attachment basis.

(Anthony De Mello)

Arrogance

If you take a psychological step back from the world and really look at it, you may be humbled.
Our world is vast, inexplicably complex and beyond the comprehension of any human.
The idea of owning it is absurd.

Only a concept

'Ownership' is the single most destructive concept ever in the history of humanity.

From this one construct stems: jealousy, greed, possessiveness, fear, control, exclusion, division, responsibility, insurance, debt, money, marriage, property, security, slavery, materialism, war and poverty.

The 'mine and yours' division lies at the root of all conflict.

Idea & real

You may buy a house, have use of it for your whole life...
But then you
die.
The house will cease to be yours in any fashion at that point.

What if there was an earthquake, volcano, tsunami, tornado, fire, war?
Again, your ownership will amount to nothing.

Even your ideas are not really yours, are they?
Ideas are passed freely from person-to-person: growing, changing, evolving.
Where did your ideas come from? Education, the media, government?

In reality, we do not and cannot own anything.

Seeing the real

A car is a metal box with four wheels that can be used to transport you from point A to point B.
It is also the source of pollution, death and debt.

A house is an abode, somewhere to relax and sleep.
It is also subject to noise pollution from neighbours, maintenance, insurance, taxation.
Paying for a house may cost you a life's earnings and then you die soon after.

Your very body is a law unto itself.
If it were not, we would all have perfect health, immaculate physiques and live as long as we wanted to.
You are owned, not the owner.
Your mind belongs to your conditioning.
