Self Defence

Dreams pass into the reality of action.
From the actions stems the dream again;
and this interdependence produces the highest form of living.

(Anais Nin)

What are dreams?

Dreams are thoughts produced by the imagination.
They are the opposite of the real.
Given that tai chi and taoism are concerned with being rooted in the immediate, it may seem odd to think about dreams.

Yet, dreams are one source of creativity.
Wondering what may or could happen, exploring how things work and trying new things is the beginning of learning.

For tai chi to have been developed, it was necessary for people to imagine it beforehand - to have a dream.

Questions

Questions are an expression of curiosity.
We look at things and ask: What are they? How do they work?

Science is the discipline of seeking answers to the questions that arise in the imagination.

Books, films and fiction

We are surrounded every day by mystery and fiction. People love to explore their imagination.
Make-believe/fiction is the art of wonderment.

Reading offers the opportunity for study and research, for stimulation and ideas.

Films tell stories of excitement and adventure, love and comedy.

We must allow our mind to embrace joy and creativity wherever it may be found. Being alert to new ways in which to explore our lives is crucial to taoism.
